Back to School!

September is time for back to school, and this year it was extra exciting because we just got a brand-spanking-new elementary school two blocks away! We’ve been walking and riding by all year, and especially often during the summer, watching the construction process. As the days until school dwindled, we became increasingly concerned it might not open on time. In the end, meet your teacher day was postponed until the first day of school, but it did indeed start in the knick of time. Here are Avery and Kieron on their first days of 4th and 1st grade.

Before heading out on our first walk to school. They’ve been commuting an hour round trip for the past four years, so we were just a little bit excited that we can walk now!

Showing off to Hayden & Avery. I’m not sure how he’ll concentrate in class. He has the best view he could ask for, he’s right in front of a big window facing a high dirt pile that is still being moved by the construction crew outside!

Avery thought he was too cool to take a picture in front of this sign until I asked Hayden if he wanted his taken and he excitedly exclaimed “yeah!” Gotta love it when peer pressure works in your favor!

Two weeks later it was Silas’ turn. He’s a big pre-k-er now. It’s hard to believe next year he’ll join his brothers at Timber Ridge.

August

Here are a few more photos from the end of summer. I’m so glad we took this one of Grammy, Layla and me. Three generations of women!

Silas & Daddy go Camping

At the end of the summer Avery went to Pullman with Grammy & Papa and Kieron went to the Oregon Coast with Nana. We decided this would be the perfect opportunity to surprise Silas with his first solo camping trip with Daddy. They went to Middle Fork Valley for a night in the woods. Earlier in the day Jonathan and I took Silas and Layla hiking there (her first hiking trip) and decided they should return that evening. It’s also the same spot where Avery and Kieron had their first trips. Of course, Silas was beyond thrilled and they had a fabulous time enjoying the great outdoors together. The following day they hiked an another 4 miles. Silas was quite the trooper, that’s 7 miles for him in one weekend!

Railroad Days

In min-August we went to the annual pancake breakfast at the fire station followed by Railroad Days in downtown Snoqualmie. The weather was beautiful and warm, we saw lots of friends, and enjoyed a yummy breakfast we didn’t have to cook!

We marched in the parade with our State Senator, Mark Mullet. He owns Zeek’s Pizza and Ben & Jerry’s in Issaquah (which we are known to frequent) and is running for re-election. We helped out with his campaign four years ago, and although things have been a little too hectic at our house to volunteer as much this year, we were happy to join him at the parade. We told him this was the last time we would supply a baby though! 😉

Tooth Fairy

The tooth fairy has been busy lately. And we should know, she’s been at our house a lot lately. On this particular night pictured below, Avery pulled out not one, but two of his molars!IMG_0599

Same pj’s another nightIMG_0700

For a few nights Avery worked on extracting Kieron’s very stubborn two front teeth. We were impressed at both how cooperative and trusting Kieron was, and how serious Avery was.

Eventually Kieron’s stragglers, which had been hanging on for dear life, making him resemble an alpaca with snaggle teeth, FINALLY kicked the bucket. He lost his first front tooth one night, and the other the next. We were all relieved when they finally went. IMG_0758 IMG_0759

Ultimately Daddy wiggled them loose with a little iPhone distractionIMG_0763
