Over the Mountains

A few weeks ago we packed the boys in the van and made the 4.5 hour (6 with kids) drive to Pullman, WA to visit Uncle Scott and Aunt Manivanh for a weekend. We had a great time visiting, but as usual, not enough time. The cousins were happy to be together and kept each other entertained. Here are a few pics from our trip:

We checked out the WSU campus, saw where Uncle Scott works, and visited the Grizzly Bears at the university

I’m pretty sure the boys were joking about bear poop here

Kieron loved digging in Uncle Scott & Aunt Manivanh’s garden

On Sunday we went to Phillips Farm and picked apples and plums

Here’s our bounty:

Kieron the Preschooler

Little Kieron started preschool last month! He’s going to a nearby Montessori two mornings a week. With all the change and excitement over Avery going to Kindergarten, it’s nice for Kieron to have a place that’s all his own, where he isn’t known as “Avery’s little brother.” He did great on his first day. No tears, and very excited about his Elmo backpack.

Blueberries!

Just before school started, we visited Bybee Farms for our annual blueberry picking family outing. We’ve gone each summer since 2009, when Avery was the age Kieron is now. It’s fun to look at our old posts and see how the boys have grown, and how their blueberry picking has evolved.

I can’t say any of them were much help this year. Don’t get me wrong, they picked plenty of blueberries, but most went in their bellies, not their buckets! Fortunately, they kept themselves occupied long enough for Daddy and I to collect a few pounds worth before Silas said it was time to go. All in all, a fun morning!

Last Camping Trip of Summer

As the end of summer approached, Jonathan and the boys squeezed in another day hike and one more camping trip. The boys loved getting outdoors and Avery was eager to go back to the same camp site that he went to last summer. The boys did some day hikes from the campground and explored the forest and river. Avery and Kieron are good little pals on trips like this, and really enjoyed their special time with Daddy.

Woah! Not Mommy approved!

Texas 2012

At the end of June we flew to Texas for a visit. It was hot, hot hot while we were there, so we spent a lot of time in the pool. It was amazing to see how far Avery and Kieron have come at swimming. Avery can now get around the pool quite well by himself. He loved snorkeling, picking up dive sticks off the pool floor, and jumping in. Kieron is a fearless little two-year-old, and must be watched at all times! He never tired of jumping in, being dunked, and even attempting to swim underwater. It was great to see how into it he was, but also a little scary!

As usual, the cousins had a blast playing together. We had a couple of sleepovers, lots of pool play, and Grammy took Avery, Nicole, and Andrew to see Madagascar 3 at the theatre. There was even a trip to Lego Land. Here are some pictures from our trip:
