SoCal

At the end of May we flew to Newport Beach to visit my uncles and take the kids to Disney Land. It’s a trip we’d been meaning to take for ten years, but we just kept putting it off. Either Avery was too young, or we were expecting, or we had a newborn. Now, four kids later, it was finally time. We had an absolute blast, and I’m just sorry we didn’t make the trip sooner!

My Uncle Brad (and new Aunt Julie!) graciously offered to host us. I snapped this photo of my entourage after we arrived in California and collected our bags.

Layla snoozing on the plane. I wish I could do this!

Happy baby after a nap!

Off the plane, almost there!

These Dutch doors are one of my main memories of visiting Uncle Brad’s when I was a little kid. I always thought they were SO cool, still do!

May

It is almost October. Between putting our house on the market, moving a family of six to a new town (more on that in a later post), getting settled in the new house, and school starting, it has been a crazy few months for the King family. It’s now a month into the school year and I am just starting to feel slightly “normal” again and like we’re settling into a groove. (Just in time for the holidays.) So it’s time I catch up on blogging. Expect a ton of posts over the next couple weeks with hasty writing and waaaay too many photos. Sorry, I just don’t have the time or energy to cull them as much as I should! But I’m glad to make the family blog a priority again. I do love having the record to look back on!

I present to you: Early May

Layla loves playing peek-a-boo from under her crib

Avery with a temporary pet salamander

Cute sleeping baby pic!

I took the littles to Sno Valley Coffee Company for some cocoa and treats

Then off to a local park

Look who likes to cruise around the playground now!

At another park, this time in Issaquah Highlands

And this time at Lake Sammamish’s new and improved park

Won’t this be fun to move?! (But too good a deal to pass up at the local garage sale.)

This girl loves strawberries!

Sleepover with the cousins. We found Avery and Andrew like this:

And Silas was totally passed out

Meanwhile Kieron and Louis were having a ball in the waiting room

School day mornings with Hamza. Really going to miss him!

What can’t you learn from YouTube? Here’s the boys trying to learn to blow bubbles.

Found this gem on the camera roll. She was mad about something!

In this pic Layla is dancing in front of the fireplace, watching her reflection in the glass!

Layla – 11 Months Old

Sweet Layla turned 11 months old last week. It’s hard to believe we’ll celebrate her first birthday in less than a month. She is such a sweet, cheerful, expressive, social little girl, and she loves hanging out with her big brothers. She is changing every day and it is so fun watching her grow!

Kieron Turns 7!

Sweet Kieron turned “lucky seven” this Cinco de Mayo. He’s matured a lot this year and is such a smart, fun, sensitive little kid. He loves to play outdoors, read, cook, do science projects, and tell jokes. He’s doing Cub Scouts and karate this year, but is considering trading one in for parkour or swimming. Kieron is strong and brave, practical, and a bit sneaky. Sometimes his brothers get on his nerves, but so far his little sister has his heart! He wants to be a forest ranger or a chef when he grows up.

We celebrated his birthday a week early with a pool party

Jackson, Isaac, Elijah, Kieron, Louis, Liam, Avery, & Silas

Birthday morning breakfast order: waffles!

Looking dapper in his new glasses

Silas got Kieron a Nexo Knight

Avery got him a cool nerf gun

And Mom and Dad got him his own Kindle Paperwhite

Apparently Jonathan isn’t the only one who likes Baskin-Robbins ice cream cake. Now Kieron and Avery ask for it too!

Heading out to the local Nerf War that evening

April

Here’s the rest of what we were up to in April:

These two!

“The hills are alive…”

On a walk with my little man. Hard to believe he’ll be in kindergarten in four months!

Look carefully. That’s a baby bunny in our strawberry patch (toward the front). We discovered four of them in a little nest when we were preparing our beds for planting. By the time we realized these were cute little bunnies and not mice, Jonathan had already scooped most of them out with a shovel. We decided the best thing to do would be to relocate them to a nearby safe spot in the woods and hope their mother found them. I’m not gonna lie, there were some tears. Jonathan went back a couple of times to check on them over the next few days and reported that they were still there and there appeared to be more fur/nest stuff on top of them. So we think Mama came back!

Awwww!

Layla plays at the park now

This little leftie loves to do school work! He plowed through 18 pages front & back and was still asking for more!

Celebrating Grammy’s 16th birthday

Reading to their sister

Our neighborhood had an Easter egg scavenger hunt the week prior to Easter. So the boys and I searched the trails for plastic eggs with stamps in them. Pretty fun idea!

At the park with Kieron

A Tiger Scouts outing

Some bedtime shenanigans

Look at Avery go on the peg board at parkour!

The boys split a good portion of spring break with their grandparents. Here’s Jonathan, Layla and me out just the three of us.
