Railroad Days Parade

Snoqualmie celebrates Railroad Days over a weekend in mid-July. That Saturday morning, Jonathan took Avery and Kieron to the annual firefighter’s pancake breakfast at our local fire station. Of course, they loved it.

After that, we all headed out to march in the parade with local politician, Mark Mullet, who is running for State Senate in our district. We were lucky enough to be placed between the Seafair Pirates and the unicycle club. The Pirates had a (very loud) cannon, which they set off probably a dozen times throughout the parade. The boys loved seeing the scalawags, but got pretty tired of their mischief. In the end, Avery got a doubloon from one of them, so it all worked out.

5th District friends, vote for Mark Mullet!

Weekend with The Avery’s

In July, Uncle Scott, Aunt Manivanh, Nicole and Andrew moved back to Washington (yay)! They are in Pullman, on the other side of the state, so it’s a few hours away in a car. But we are thrilled to have them back in the beautiful northwest again and are glad we’ll get to see more of them. They came to visit a couple weekends ago. We had a great time, but it passed way too quickly.

The cousins had a terrific time together. On Saturday night, Kieron wisely opted to sleep in his own bed, but Avery, Andrew and Nicole camped out in sleeping bags in Avery’s room. They stayed up talking until almost midnight! Needless to say, they were all quite tired in the morning. On Sunday, Scott and Manivanh went to run some errands in the city and visit friends they hadn’t seen in a while. We took the kids on a nice long walk to a playground, then came back and played in the backyard. We got out the pool, and although not quite as big as Grammy and Papa’s, there was lots of mayhem and laughter.

When Avery went to bed on Sunday, he started to cry. He asked when he would get to see his cousins again and said he really missed them. It was so sweet. He and his brothers are lucky to have cousins close in age and now not so far away. Fortunately, we have a trip to Pullman planned for next month, so he won’t have to wait too long!

Wedding in Leavenworth

Last month, one of our college friends tied the knot in Leavenworth. Mike rowed with Jonathan on the crew team, so many of the other rowing buddies were there. It was a lot of fun to catch up with everyone, although having three little ones in tow made it somewhat difficult to visit!

We decided to make a weekend trip out of it and rent a cabin with Jonathan’s old roommate, Jim, and his family. The kids were really good, and had so much fun together playing in the woods. On Sunday we strolled around downtown Leavenworth and enjoyed a yummy Bavarian lunch.

It was a great weekend, and we couldn’t be happier for the newlyweds, Mike and Meridith.

4th of July

Here it is, August already – time to post about our Fourth of July! We decided to stay home again and enjoy a nice suburban holiday. We decorated the bikes and joined in the morning neighborhood parade. After that we briefly went to the festival that followed, but the lines to all the blow up bounce houses were super long, and waiting to get in just wasn’t worth it with three kids under five. So home we went and had some nice family time in the back yard. We had a BBQ dinner outside with our friends, the Lotts. And finally we ventured into the cul de sac for some fire works! The kids really got a kick out of them. Overall, it was a fun and successful Fourth!

Texas 2012

At the end of June we flew to Texas for a visit. It was hot, hot hot while we were there, so we spent a lot of time in the pool. It was amazing to see how far Avery and Kieron have come at swimming. Avery can now get around the pool quite well by himself. He loved snorkeling, picking up dive sticks off the pool floor, and jumping in. Kieron is a fearless little two-year-old, and must be watched at all times! He never tired of jumping in, being dunked, and even attempting to swim underwater. It was great to see how into it he was, but also a little scary!

As usual, the cousins had a blast playing together. We had a couple of sleepovers, lots of pool play, and Grammy took Avery, Nicole, and Andrew to see Madagascar 3 at the theatre. There was even a trip to Lego Land. Here are some pictures from our trip:
