Avery’s new tricks

Avery did a lot of changing this past week. It seems like a light went off in his head, and now he’s trying all sorts of new things. The big news is he start walking! It began with a few steps between Mommy and Daddy, but before long we was traveling ten or fifteen steps in a row. He gets a huge grin and puts his arms straight out to keep his balance. It’s the cutest thing to watch.
Avery also started eating a lot of new foods. For the past couple of months he’s been a picky eater, leery of anything new. Now he’s liable to climb up your leg if you’ve got something he’s interested in. Here are a few of the things he just discovered:

  • Peas & carrots
  • Diced peaches & pears
  • Mint girl scout cookies
  • Pizza with pepperoni and sausage
  • Mommy’s bran muffins
  • Daddy’s oatmeal with whipped cream
  • Ice cream with chocolate syrup

He has a funny habit of sorting his food. We’re not exactly sure what his system is, but he moves some of his food to the side of his tray, and then returns it to the middle before eating it.
Other new skills include: clapping, waving, and climbing. His vocabulary has expanded to include: gah (dog), Mama, Dada, hay, bye bye, ball, ook (book), boa (boat), and uh oh.

Avery loves to hang out in his chair.

We painted the living/dining room last week while Avery was sleeping.

Avery’s 1st Birthday

Our little boy turned one today! We had the customary 1st birthday party attended by family and a handful of ‘friends with kids’. The party was slightly chaotic with kids running/crawling in all directions, while parents and family snacked on hors d’oeuvres. I think everyone had a great time.
Lindsey and I are both amazed at how quickly this first year has gone by. He was just a little baby so very recently, and now he’s starting to look and act like a little boy.
Mommy picked up balloons in the morning.

Partygoers.

Yummy cupcakes.

Jono’s noodles.

Not a cupcake fan.

Done with this.

Date Night: Matchbox Twenty

This weekend Lindsey and I left Avery with my parents and had a night out together. It was great. We haven’t ever been more than a few miles away from Avery, and going to Seattle by ourselves was liberating. After dinnenr & beer at the Pyramid Ale House, we went to the Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morissette concert at the Key Arena.

At the coffee shop.

Seattle Aquarium

Yesterday was a gorgeous day in Seattle, and we had a great time playing in the city. In the morning we met up with some clients to chat about their wedding at Joe Bar. The coffee was phenomenal, and it was a great spot to spend some time hanging out. The only downside was the long line which prevented me from getting a second coffee.
Afterwards we took Avery to the Seattle Aquarium for his first glimpse at marine life. Lindsey and I hadn’t been in years, so it was fun to explore. We ended up getting a membership. We’ll have to take Avery back when he’s a little older.
Finally we met up with some friends and their daughter at a park. It turns out they’re pregnant again with number “last”. Good work guys.
