Thanksgiving in Texas

We celebrated Thanksgiving in Texas with Lindsey’s parents. At the table we each said something we were thankful for. Aside from all the regular things like health and family, we all gave thanks for Obama’s victory. Whoo hoo!

Avery’s favorite dish: cranberry relish

Pacific Science Center

We visited the Pacific Science Center with my parents the other weekend. It was a pretty fun place to take a toddler, though some of the exhibits will be more fun when Avery is a little older. The butterfly house was our favorite. It’s a big solarium filled with tropical plants and lots of butterflies.

Trick or Treatin’

Avery’s first trip out into the neighborhood going door-to-door begging for candy was a success. He visited thirteen houses, and then the tired little dragon sat on the sidewalk and had to be carried home. Lindsey and I had a great time taking our tot around. It’s pretty cool being parents on Halloween and seeing the holiday through the eyes of your child.

The best pumpkin ever! Go Barack!

Truck or Treat

This afternoon Lindsey had the great idea of leaving work a few minutes early and taking Avery to see the big rigs show. At first I was a little leery of the idea — I don’t want my kid turning into a monster truck fanatic — but Avery really enjoyed seeing the local: dump truck, fire truck, cement truck, garbage truck, school bus, milk truck, cop car, street sweeper, backhoe, tow truck, and generally any kind of truck you can think of. He even got to hop in all the drivers seats and honk the horns.
Beep beep!

Distracted much?

Pumpkin Patch

On Wednesday we took Avery to the pumpkin patch to search for the perfect pumpkin. It was the same place we visited last year. Fortunately Avery isn’t old enough to feel embarrassed wearing his costume out and about, though he was a little grumpy when we first arrived. We went on a hay ride, but his favorite part was sitting on an old tractor and fiddling with the wheel and levers.
