Sucia

After the kids wrapped up sailing camp, we left from Bellingham and headed to Sucia to unplug for a couple of nights. It’s a beautiful island with several “fingers”, making for lots of fun shoreline and nooks and crannies to explore. There isn’t much there aside from a couple of docks, a lot of trails and some composting potties. It’s a busy place for boaters who want an environment that feels more remote and less developed.

The kids discovered a large family of playful otters.

This is the otter’s home

Lots of boats anchored

We finally broke out the BBQ

Lots of driftwood here

We thought this cool rock looked like an eagle

Bellingham Visit

We enjoyed hanging out in Bellingham while Silas and Layla were in sailing camp. We got together with Nicole a few times!  Here we are at Boundary Bay Brewery for probably the last time. After 30 years they are closing their doors.

Mallard ice cream!

Sailing camp homework

We got matching LFS sweatshirts

Good morning, Bellingham Bay!

Went out for drinks with Nicole at Orion

We checked out Avery’s dorm building, Ridgeway Kappa

Happy Hour at a new brewery, Beach Cat

We all went to Trackside Beer Garden for dinner one evening. This used to be the site of the old, stinky paper mill that ran while Jonathan and I were in college. I love what they’ve done with it!

We visited our old neighbors, Tom and Nicole and walked down to the beach together

Sailing Camp

Silas and Layla attended a week-long sailing camp in Bellingham in early August. It was a windy week, and some days it even rained, but they were troopers and enjoyed the whole experience. We decided to make a trip out of the camp, so the weekend prior, Jonathan and Kieron brought Everlong to Bellingham and Silas, Layla and I stayed on board the whole week of camp. It was nice walking the short distance up the dock to the Yacht Club each morning. During the day I would walk to town and on the way back I/we watched them sailing in the bay for a while. We spent the evenings in town and on the boat. I’m happy to report Silas and Layla both caught the sailing bug and want to do more camps next year. We couldn’t be more thrilled! Scroll to the end to see some cool aerial videos!

July

Here’s what we were up to in July. I celebrated my birthday with a girls night out in Bellevue. We ate dinner out and then went dancing at the W. I love these women. They are so much fun and don’t take themselves too seriously!

Got to catch up with my friend, Anh!

For Becky’s birthday, we got astrology readings at Pineapple Life

Then we headed to Grassie Winery

Kieron has his learner’s permit!

We spent some time boating on Lake Washington

Summer Swim

Kieron, Silas & Layla participated in another season of summer swim. Unfortunately, Kieron fractured his arm right before competition started and then we had our Europe trip, so his season was pretty short, but once we returned he got a few meets in. Layla and Silas made a lot of progress this season. It was fun watching all of them grow and improve.

Look at her butterfly form!
