Christmas 2013

This Christmas was bittersweet. I love this time of year… the carols, the lights, the decorating, the baking… and it’s magical with a house full of small children. We were really looking forward to celebrating our first Christmas in our new house, and having all of our family together under one roof.

Nana’s sister, Auntie Ish, flew out from New Zealand, and spent Christmas with us. It was such a treat having her here, and for the boys to get to know her.

Losing Jonathan’s dad the week before was very hard, and Christmas definitely wasn’t the same without him. But it came just the same, and I’m proud to say we made the most of it despite everything.

Visiting Santa and his Reindeer

We visited Santa at the Cougar Mountain Zoo again this year. I love our tradition of making an afternoon of our Santa visit and visiting the reindeer and other zoo animals.

We arrived in the morning, right when they opened, and got to see the tiger’s “Christmas Party.” I wish we had some pictures of it. The tigers got a couple of Christmas trees stuffed with meat, and some wrapped presents with treats inside, which they ripped to shreds. Afterwards, we rushed to see Santa. When we got there, no one else was in line yet, so he spent some extra time going over Christmas lists with the boys.

Late November, Early December

We are so lucky to have this amazing place practically in our back yard (two miles away)! We had a big freeze recently, and Jonathan went out and snapped this shot of Snoqualmie Falls.

Thanksgiving in Pullman

We travelled over the pass to celebrate Thanksgiving at Uncle Scott & Aunt Manivanh’s this year. The boys were overjoyed spend see their cousins, and a great time was had by all!

Nicole, Andrew, and Avery participated in a volleyball workshop on Wednesday night. After that, we had pizza and stayed for the game. Here’s Silas with Daddy a few minutes before he decided it was time for he and Mommy to retire for the night.

It was freezing outside, but that didn’t keep us from the park.

Decking the Halls

I usually wait until after Thanksgiving to put up Christmas decorations, but Thanksgiving came so late this year, that I decided to do it the weekend before. I felt a little silly putting up the tree before we’d even cooked a turkey, but I’m glad we did it this way. There was plenty to do between the two holidays, and we needed the head-start.

The boys were actually a big help decorating the tree this year. Even Silas chipped in, and much to my delight, he didn’t bother the ornaments or stockings.
