Snoqualmie Tunnel

Jen, Oliver & Bjorn came to visit in early August. One afternoon we hiked through the Snoqualmie Tunnel on the Iron Horse/John Wayne Pioneer Trail. We tried to go a couple of years ago, but it was closed due to falling debris. It reopened in July after renovations were completed.

The tunnel is 2.3 mi long (each way), and quite chilly inside. The boys had an awesome time, but I’m so glad we did this with friends. I don’t know if Avery would have been such a trooper without a buddy. Kieron enjoyed himself in the backpack. He fell asleep on the way out, and on the way back he spent much of the time making noises and listening to the echoes in the tunnel.

Summer Days

The old kiddie pool finally broke, so it was time to pick up a new one. Here’s a few pics of the boys breaking in the new pool.

Kieron’s First Haircut

At almost fourteen months old, Kieron was starting to sport a serious mullet, and we determined it was time for his first haircut. His helmet served as the perfect guide for trimming the back!

While I was putting Kieron’s hair in his baby book, I took a quick look in Avery’s to see how old he was when I gave him his first haircut. It was interesting to note that Avery only made it 11 1/2 months until his first trim. Also, both baby book hair samples are the same shade.

Lately

So what’s new lately? Kieron is getting around quite well these days. He now does everything but walk, and he’s not too far from adding that skill. Baby gates are up, cabinet latches are on. Pantry door must stay shut. He likes to go in there to look for food. He’s also communicating more and more. It’s adorable!

Avery has attended swim lessons for the past few weeks. He’s really excelling and making lots of improvement. I can tell he’s gaining a lot of confidence in the water, which is great!

He also learned to ride a two-wheeler this week! The bike we got Avery for his birthday will be good for him to grow into, but we realized it’s just too big for him right now. So we picked up a smaller one on Craigslist, and within a day or two he was riding around on his own. His old bike was one of the ones without pedals, so he would learn to balance first, then add in pedaling. I definitely think it’s the way to go. We were able to skip training wheels all together. Our house is across the street from a cul-de-sac, and there are gobs of little boys in the neighborhood. The neighbors put up cones and all the little kids zip around while the parents socialize and supervise.

Here are a few recent pics of the boys
