Wedding in Leavenworth

Last month, one of our college friends tied the knot in Leavenworth. Mike rowed with Jonathan on the crew team, so many of the other rowing buddies were there. It was a lot of fun to catch up with everyone, although having three little ones in tow made it somewhat difficult to visit!

We decided to make a weekend trip out of it and rent a cabin with Jonathan’s old roommate, Jim, and his family. The kids were really good, and had so much fun together playing in the woods. On Sunday we strolled around downtown Leavenworth and enjoyed a yummy Bavarian lunch.

It was a great weekend, and we couldn’t be happier for the newlyweds, Mike and Meridith.

Texas 2012

At the end of June we flew to Texas for a visit. It was hot, hot hot while we were there, so we spent a lot of time in the pool. It was amazing to see how far Avery and Kieron have come at swimming. Avery can now get around the pool quite well by himself. He loved snorkeling, picking up dive sticks off the pool floor, and jumping in. Kieron is a fearless little two-year-old, and must be watched at all times! He never tired of jumping in, being dunked, and even attempting to swim underwater. It was great to see how into it he was, but also a little scary!

As usual, the cousins had a blast playing together. We had a couple of sleepovers, lots of pool play, and Grammy took Avery, Nicole, and Andrew to see Madagascar 3 at the theatre. There was even a trip to Lego Land. Here are some pictures from our trip:

Boys Camping Weekend

For Father’s Day weekend, Jonathan and a few of his coworkers went camping together with their sons. The boys took a ferry out to Lopez Island and stayed at Odlin Park. It was Kieron’s first camping trip, and he was excited and unsure of what to expect. Avery was counting down the days for the past month. It ended up being a soggy camping trip, but they made the most of it. The boys spent a ton of time playing in the sand, and the men cooked and drank. There were plenty of deer and eagle sightings, along with crabs and caterpillars.

And as for me and Silas, we enjoyed the peace and quiet at home!

Snoqualmie Falls

Last weekend Jonathan took Avery and Kieron to Snoqualmie Falls while Silas and I did a little shopping at the local outlet mall. The mist reached all the way to the observation deck. Avery mostly stayed back, not wanting to get wet, but Kieron didn’t mind at all. Here are some pics from their outing.

Christmas in Texas

We celebrated Christmas in Texas this year. We flew in a few days early and spent the majority of our time shopping, wrapping, baking, and having play dates and sleep overs with cousins Nicole and Andrew. On Christmas Eve Day we met up with my cousin, Laura, and her family at Neiman Marcus in Dallas. They had a special holiday display set up where the kids could climb through tunnels that meandered through the store-front windows. This was a hit with the kids, who raced through the exhibit dozens of times.

Uncle Scott & Aunt Manivanh hosted Christmas Eve. We munched on hors d’oeurves, played our traditional Christmas “dice game,” the kids decorated a gingerbread house, and Santa even dropped by for a visit.

Christmas Day was celebrated at Grammy and Papa’s house. Avery woke up early that morning and ventured downstairs by himself while we were still sleeping. Fortunately, Jonathan woke up and discovered him opening presents. Most of the stockings were emptied out, and one gift for Scott & Manivanh was unwrapped. I was a little surprised that Avery did this, but apparently Jonathan once did something similar when he was little, so it must be some mischievous trait Avery gets from his dad. Shortly after re-stuffing the stockings, we all opened presents together. The kids were totally in their element and paper and boxes were everywhere. We had a delicious Christmas feast that evening with all the traditional fixings.

Overall, we had a great holiday, and enjoyed spending time with our family in Texas. Here are some pictures from our trip:
