Baby King 3.0

We’re thrilled to announce that we’re expecting our third (and final) little one, due March 8th! We had our first ultrasound last week, and got to see the baby’s heartbeat on the monitor. It was pretty amazing, as he/she is only the size of a blueberry right now!

I got so lucky with my first two pregnancies. No morning sickness whatsoever. Sure I felt tired, but with Avery I was able to nap. And with Kieron, I only had one little guy to look after, and he still napped sometimes, so occasionally I could sneak one in. This time there is no napping, barely any sitting! And on top of it, I am nauseous almost ’round the clock. Thank goodness this is the last time!

I couldn’t wait for Jonathan to get home from work to tell him, so I pretended I’d been out running errands and asked if I could drop by to say hi on my way home. The baby shoes on the hood of the van are the same ones that appeared the last two times I delivered this news to Jonathan.

Weekend in Bellingham

Last weekend we drove up to Bellingham to visit friends. We always look forward to our trips back to the town where we went to college, fell in love, and started a family. We visited as many of our favorite spots as we could with two little boys under tow.

As usual, Avery and Bjorn had a blast together. They went on bike rides, played on the slip ‘n slide and in the sand box, and ate all the currants from Jen & Oliver’s back yard. Notable conversations we overheard included one about where babies come from. Avery insisted you could buy them at the hospital, while Bjorn had a more accurate understanding of what goes on. Also, Bjorn, who believes the monsters from Where the Wild Things Are are not real, was surprised and alarmed when Avery told him they are in fact real, and live in the forest on nearby Lummi Island.

On Sunday, Jonathan met up with some co-workers at the Brewers by the Bay Beer Festival. He had a great time visiting with his coworkers who he doesn’t get to see often enough, and enjoyed sampling many of the great local microbrews.

Cool Summer

There may be heat waves all over the country, but we sure aren’t having any in Western Washington! We’ve lived in the northwest more than (gasp!) 20 years, and can’t recall a summer so cool, rainy, and disappointing. But that’s not to say we haven’t had any decent days, there have been some. In fact, July Fourth was the prettiest day all year.

It’s been a fun and busy summer so far, with visits from Uncle Scott and Nana & Grandpa, dinners with friends, birthday parties galore, picnics in the back yard, a garage sale, the Nordstrom Sale, and lots and lots of walks and bike rides.

Kieron reached a big milestone just after he turned fourteen months. He started walking, and as expected, this spells trouble. He’s now into anything and everything, and that helmet is coming in mighty handy these days!

Downtown Snoqualmie

We didn’t get enough beautiful sunny days in June, but we did get a few. We spent this one in downtown Snoqualmie checking out the little shops and the railroad museum, and ended up at the brewery for lunch.

Lately

So what’s new lately? Kieron is getting around quite well these days. He now does everything but walk, and he’s not too far from adding that skill. Baby gates are up, cabinet latches are on. Pantry door must stay shut. He likes to go in there to look for food. He’s also communicating more and more. It’s adorable!

Avery has attended swim lessons for the past few weeks. He’s really excelling and making lots of improvement. I can tell he’s gaining a lot of confidence in the water, which is great!

He also learned to ride a two-wheeler this week! The bike we got Avery for his birthday will be good for him to grow into, but we realized it’s just too big for him right now. So we picked up a smaller one on Craigslist, and within a day or two he was riding around on his own. His old bike was one of the ones without pedals, so he would learn to balance first, then add in pedaling. I definitely think it’s the way to go. We were able to skip training wheels all together. Our house is across the street from a cul-de-sac, and there are gobs of little boys in the neighborhood. The neighbors put up cones and all the little kids zip around while the parents socialize and supervise.
