Avery Turns Fifteen!

Avery turned 15  this year. It’s hard to believe we have a child so old! At 15, Avery is such a fun kid. He’s a great student, a dedicated athlete, a super teammate and friend, and a wonderful son. He puts so much effort into everything he does, and we are so proud of him.

We celebrated with a birthday sleepover. We ordered pad thai and the boys stayed up late playing basketball, ping pong, foosball, and watching movies and playing video games.

Silas Turns Ten!

Silas turned double digits this year! At ten, Silas is such a sweet, good-natured kid. He is positive, upbeat, easy going, and always up for trying something new. He has lots of friends and is just a joy to be around. We love you, Silas!

Boiled chocolate cake for his birthday

And sausage balls, of course!

We celebrated with a pool party at The Club. Boy, did we luck out. It was the sunniest, warmest March day I’ve ever seen!

February

In February I got my certification to work as an emergency substitute teacher in the school district. I started as an elementary para in the kinder classes and worked my way up to teaching all grades k-12.

Over mid-winter break, Jonathan and I took a long weekend trip to sunny San Diego.

This place had great oysters!

We went on a long hike at Torrey Pines State Park

Ended up making our way down to the beach, turned left and found ouselves walking through a nude beach!

January

January brought with it lots of skiing for Jonathan and the kids. I joined them up there one day to see what they’d all learned. Even though I’m not really into the scene myself, I’m glad they’re all learning and getting comfortable on the mountain. They’re more daring than I am, for sure!

Another time up there night skiing with Daddy

December

Here’s what the Kings were up to in December:
The Varsity XC team had a Christmas party/scavenger hunt that sent them running all over The Ridge

Here’s Avery’s buddy, Dallen, leading the team in singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”

Parental silly string ambush!

Outside Starbucks

Each location on the scavenger hunt had something to do with a different teammate.

We went to Wade Walthall’s Nutcracker at Evergreen City Ballet. Wade was my ballet teacher when I was growing up, and he was a principal dancer at PNB and starred as the Prince in the 1986 televised version of The Nutcracker. He is now creative director at Evergreen City Ballet.

We met our friends, the Holubs, at The Nutcracker. Here’s Layla with her friend, Brittan.

On the mountain with Dad!

Gingerbread house decorating. We got a beach house this year.

We took Grammy to see a Christmas musical, Coming Home, at The Village Theatre.
