December

We returned from Hawaii on December 11th this year. This left exactly two weeks to get ready for Christmas. Here is (a little bit) of what we were up to during that busy time.

Cookie baking. LOTS of cookie baking. With 5 kids in the house over the holidays, we needed a lot of cookies on hand. The boys are becoming good little helpers.

We watched a lot of Christmas specials. Here’s Kieron watching “Home Alone” for the first time. I was so excited to share this movie with the boys, and they all loved it. They were in stitches! They still love to throw around the quote “Keep the change, you filthy animal!”

Grammy & Papa took Silas to Build-a-Bear to choose his Christmas present. He named his pooch “Marshall” and got him Olaf (from Frozen)  PJ’s.

We took Kieron to get his vision tested, and it turns out the poor kid could barely see! Here he is getting fitted for the frames he selected. He put on his new glasses for the first time in January, and the look on his face was priceless!

And sent letters to Santa. I forgot to snap a photo of Avery’s before it went in the mailbox, but here is Kieron’s.

Visiting Santa

Shortly after returning from Hawaii, we took the boys to visit Santa and his reindeer at the nearby Reindeer Festival. We went on a weekend this year, so Jonathan and I spent much of the time divided while one of us kept our place in line and the other toured around with the boys. After working our way up to see Santa (not too long of a line, maybe 15 minutes, but it was outside in the cold), we were 2nd in line when it was time for his lunch break! Boy were we disappointed! Apparently he has to eat too! Fortunately, it was a pretty brief break, and since we were so close to his cabin, I was able to hold our spot inside and warm up a little while Jonathan and the boys visited some of the other zoo animals. It would have been nice if the elves had cut the line short earlier and let us know his break was coming up. Oh well, we will remember that next year! Fortunately, the boys were very well behaved and when Santa came back they brought their manners and A game. Silas was even happy to sit on his lap. We snapped this adorable photo of them together.

If I had the time I would create a composite of the following two photos, but since I don’t, here they both are. I love Kieron’s hair and tan. He looks like a little 70’s beach boy!

Maui 2015

In early December we headed to Maui for a relaxing family vacation. Of course we had a fabulous time and enjoyed every second of it! What’s not to love, it’s Maui?! The timing ended up being great too, as we missed out on the flooding back home and two days of school that the boys would have missed ended up cancelled. December can be an iffy month weather-wise in Maui, but we had sun every day, and we tried to soak up as much of it as we could.

We stopped by Coconuts for dinner a couple of times. Last year Kieron met a waitress there, Ariel, who made quite an impression on him with her wit and quirky sense of humor. We checked, and she has since moved on, but she will not be forgotten. 😉

Big News

Jonathan and I had been thinking and talking about it for a while, and decided this summer that we wanted to have another baby. In the fall we found out we were indeed expecting! Things have changed a lot even since Silas was born, and they now offer a DNA blood test around 10 weeks of pregnancy. The test screens for a number of genetic disorders, and also gender.

In early December we decided to share the exciting news, beginning with the boys. We told them a week or two prior that a little brother or sister was on it’s way, we were having a special test done, and would know soon which it would be. We got the phone call on a Monday around lunchtime. Test results were all normal, and “it” was a “she!” There was some hugging and a happy dance, followed by “we have to tell the boys today! There’s no way we can keep this a secret!” Thanks to Pinterest, I knew just how I wanted to reveal the gender to big brothers. Silas and I hopped in the car to purchase a large box and some balloons. I kept him distracted at the party store and threw him off by ordering balloons in both colors. Once we got home, Silas helped me decorate the box, and we talked about what he thought was inside. I asked whether he thought he was getting a little brother or sister, and he said “I just want a baby!” We barely finished decorating and packing the car when the bus arrived with Avery and Kieron. It was 4pm and we had roughly 25 minutes until sunset. Jonathan and I loaded the boys in the car and headed for this bridge, which we thought would make a cool backdrop for pictures. The boys could hardly wait to find out what color was inside the box – both Avery and Kieron were hoping for pink. 🙂

As the sun set somewhere over the mountains, the boys opened up the box and pink balloons slowly floated up!

Thanksgiving in Pullman

We spent Thanksgiving in Pullman with Uncle Scott, Aunt Manivanh, Nicole & Andrew. As always, we had a fun time visiting and feasting. The kids sure had a blast playing together too!

Here we are at the WSU stadium. The kids had fun running around on the field.
