November

As I recall, last January I resolved to stay up-to-date on the family blog. I did pretty well for a while. But then the holidays rolled around, and the resolution went out the window for a while. Time to get back on track! Here’s a bit of what we were up to in November:

Halloween

Our boys had the wettest, soggiest Halloween of their lives to date this year. We always joke that the rain in the northwest starts on Halloween and continues through the 4th of July. There is some truth to this, but since we became parents, I can only recall one other Halloween with any precipitation, and it wasn’t that bad.

However, if there is such a thing as a good year for a wet Halloween, this was it. Kieron and I both came down with a tummy bug that day, and I could barely get up from the couch. While Kieron was recovering (and Jonathan cleaned the van) Grammy took Avery and Silas out for a little trick-or -treating. Fortunately, Kieron felt well enough to fit in a quick loop around our cul-de-sac a little while later. Avery joined his buddy, Hayden, and his family, later in the evening for some additional Halloween festivities. As it turned out, two days later, Jonathan and Avery caught our bug. I am so glad Grammy was there lend a hand!

Luckily, the weekend prior, there was a Halloween event at our downtown shopping area. The weather was beautiful, and everyone was healthy, so we got in some proper trick-or-treating this day!

Port Gamble

Sometimes a great Craigslist find justifies an impromptu family trip. In this case, a children’s desk sent us to Port Gamble for a day. The boys love ferry rides, and we had a fun time exploring the Peninsula.

Pumpkin Patch

In mid-October, we took the boys to Fox Hollow Farm to pick out pumpkins. The family farm is a sanctuary for abused or abandoned animals. I’ll let the pictures tell the story, but this farm is full of fun things to see and do. It was our first time there, and we all had a great time. Already looking forward to our next visit!

The first thing we came to at the farm was this adorable miniature neighborhood. It included 4-5 little two-story, four-room houses for the kids to play and run around in. The boys had a blast. I would have loved this as a child!

The hay maze and corn pit!

IMG_7712 IMG_7716

We had a brief scare at the hay maze. All three boys went in one end and Jonathan and I headed to the other side to meet them by the corn pit. What we didn’t realize was that Silas came back out the entrance and wandered off. After a bit of searching we found him with one of the employees behind a concessions counter, just as I was approaching full-blown panic mode. (It’s a decent-sized farm and there is a river just a few yards away from the hay maze.) I’m thankful the staff knew just what to do with a little guy on his own.
