Sailing Day 1

Here are some pics from our first day sailing in Newport Harbor. We took out a bigger boat than last time and the kids were thoroughly distracted by exploring the cabin and various nooks and crannies down below. We got them out on deck as much as we could!

Newport Beach Getaway

We decided to spend a long weekend in Newport Beach over mid-winter break. It turned out to be a great way to get some respite from the unseasonably snowy February we got this year.

  • Legos with Uncle Brian
  • The kids loved the real fire inside
  • The neighbor’s (adorable) cat
  • A book about Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s first commodore, who, as coincidence would have it, was also the original owner of Grandpa Phil’s wooden boat, Synnove 3
  • It was neat to hear about some of Uncle Brad’s work on the City Council

The Reptile Zoo

After the snow thawed and the roads were clear, we were more than ready to get out of the house! We went to The Reptile Zoo in Monroe one afternoon. Another we visited the Pacific Science Center.

  • Albino alligator
  • You’ve heard of baby shark. This is baby alligator!
  • Python
  • Softshell Turtle
  • Monitor Lizard
  • Tarantula
  • Chameleon
  • American Crocodile
  • Another day we ventured to Seattle to visit the Pacific Science Center
  • Layla was terrified of the dinosaurs
  • And Avery did not like this butterfly who tried to hitch a ride out on his jacket
  • Building tall towers
  • Silas loved the Gemeni Spacecraft

Snowy February

We had an epic snowfall this February, which resulted in school being cancelled much of the month. (Mid-winter break also fell between snowstorms, extending the days off.) I think we got more than two feet of snowfall and over a foot of accumulation! By the time the snow thawed even the kids were ready for it to be gone. But we had a lot of fun while it was here. Lots of pics below!
