Visiting Nana

In January we spent a weekend with Nana. We had a great time, and the weather cooperated, so we got to play outside a lot. The boys were enthusiastic to help in the yard. A big pile of firewood was delivered, and they showed off their strength and endurance, stacking firewood for a good hour. On Sunday we watched the Seahawks beat the 49ers and enjoyed a gourmet taco feast by Mark.

The boys had a blast helping stack a big pile of firewood.

Each boy got a ride on the mower.  Kieron was delighted that his middle name, Scott, was on the front of it.

Early May

It rained here today, but we’ve been lucky this year and have enjoyed a beautiful spring. Here’s some of what we’ve been up to:

Picnics whenever possible.

The boys really want to have a sleepover. We’ve had several attempts on weekends, but they always end up either wrestling, or Kieron begs Avery to keep reading books to him.

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Kieron started pooping on the potty and never looked back! For the longest time he refused to do it, and let’s just say it caused Jonathan and I a lot of grief. I don’t know if it’s because he turned three, and considers himself a big boy now, or what, but he’s using the potty now, and is really proud of himself. Here he is carrying his reward (a remote control digger) to the register at Toys ‘R Us. Hallelujah!

Kieron Turns Three!

Not only is Cinco de Mayo the day that marks Mexico’s independence, it’s also the day sweet Kieron decided to make his entrance (or exit). At three years old, Kieron is tender,  sensitive, cheerful, stubborn, and he knows what he wants. He is remarkably good at identifying feelings and emotions. His recall is incredible. He remembers names and associations that Avery still can’t keep straight! He smiles easily and often. But don’t cross this one, he is also impulsive and ornery. Kieron is picky and likes things on his terms (especially when it comes to eating and going potty). He enjoys cooking, singing, digging in the dirt, riding bikes, and cuddling. He loves the garbage man and always looks forward to garbage day.

After going all out for Avery’s 6th birthday, I wanted to do something special for Kieron this year. He chose a Sesame Street theme (Cookie Monster, in particular). We invited a few of the usual suspects, played games, had a Sesame Street/Mariachi playlist, and dined on tacos, quesadillas, and cupcakes. Kieron basked in all the attention, and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day.

Easter, Part 2

Saturday was the big Easter egg hunt at Centennial Fields, in North Bend. It took about one minute for 1,000 kids to collect 10,000 eggs once the Easter Bunny arrived via firetruck and blew the whistle. Nana and Grandpa came to visit for the weekend and celebrate not only Easter, but Avery & Jonathan’s birthdays. We had beautiful weather again, and I even got to break out my capris for the first time this year!

Hayden & Avery spotted one of the golden eggs (there were 10 in the fields) that would win them a special Easter basket. They were prepared to rush for it once the whistle blew.

Despite his best efforts, Avery collided with another boy who rushed for the golden egg, and did not get it. He was momentarily upset, but then recovered and went after some of the plastic ones.

Kieron was a great little egg hunter this year, and was even sweet enough to share some of his loot with a younger girl who came up empty-handed.

Easter, Part 1

Our Easter celebration began on Friday afternoon with a party at Kieron’s new preschool, which is a farm school complete with hens, ducks, goats, giant bunnies, and a Bernese Mountain Dog. We got lucky and had a beautiful sunny day. There was an egg hunt, followed by snacks, planting in the garden, playing, and exploring the farm. We had a terrific time!
