Snow Days + Thanksgiving

It snowed four inches last Monday. This was enough to close schools and keep our family at home through Wednesday. On top of that, Kieron and I were suffering from a cold which Avery had just passed on to us. We managed to get out sledding and stomping around in the snow anyway. We had snowball fights, made snow angels, and even tried to build an igloo, but the snow was too dry. Then we sipped hot chocolate, put up Christmas decorations, and watched The Grinch and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The snow certainly put us in the holiday spirit a little early.

Fortunately, the roads cleared up just in time for Thanksgiving. Nana and Grandpa drove up to celebrate with us. We enjoyed a delicious feast, the highlight of which was Jonathan and Avery’s amazing pumpkin cheesecake!

Halloween 2010

This was the best Halloween to date! The festivities started with our traditional stop at Trick or Truck. Avery had a great time visiting with friends and checking out the various big rigs. After that we rushed home and prepared a quick dinner. Then Avery and Daddy headed out for some trick-or-treating while Kieron napped and Mommy handed out candy. Once Kieron woke up, we met up and finished going around the block.

The real fun started when we all got home and it was Avery’s turn to hand out candy. By this time he had a little sugar-high going. Every time the doorbell rang, Avery yelled “They’re here! They’re here!” He jumped up and down, grabbed two fists full of candy, and sprinted to the door. When Mommy or Daddy opened it, Avery exclaimed “Happy Halloween!” As he distributed the candy, he asked each trick-or-treater if they would come back to play with him and if they would go to Costco with him on Sunday. And he said a bunch of other things too, whatever else came to his mind. He was really on a roll, and we were in stitches!

Pumpkin Patch

We took the boys to the Carpinito Brothers Pumpkin Patch before Halloween. Avery was thrilled, and his favorite part was pulling the wagon we stacked with pumpkins. It took quite a bit of work on his part, but somehow he managed. We went on a hayride, which he also enjoyed, but Kieron cried almost the whole time. He missed his evening nap, and was a bit out of sorts. Of course we dressed the boys up for some photos.

Kieron Eats Food!

On October 23, Kieron had his first taste of food. We fed him rice cereal, and it went pretty well. In fact, it really didn’t seem to take much getting used to at all. Since then he’s had bananas and apple sauce, which appear to be a little sweet for his taste right now. He also tried carrots, which got a so-so response, and sweet potatoes, which he loved!

Salmon Days

In early October, Issaquah holds it’s annual Salmon Days Festival. The last time I went, I was marching in a parade back in high school. Every year we say we should go, but for one reason or another, we just don’t seem to make it. We finally made it this year, and had a great time. The weather cooperated, and Jonathan’s family was in town for the weekend. Avery loved watching the salmon in the stream. He also enjoyed the firetruck parked nearby.
